Case Study: TruHearing
"Improving lives through affordable hearing health services."

TruHearing was founded in 2003 to make hearing health care services and hearing devices more accessible and affordable. In 2013 new CEO, Tommy Macdonald, joined the team and led a transformational change culturally and structurally that positioned the company for the 30% YoY growth it has experienced since then.

 

In June of 2018 TruHearing engaged JumpSearch to help further that cultural and organizational change.  

Challenge

In May of 2018 TruHearing parted ways with its technical leader of 6 years.  This left a significant void yet created a critical opportunity to bring in leadership to up-level the team culturally, organizationally, and technologically.  

JumpSearch was retained to recruit and hire a VP of Technology, but not just any technical leader, the right person would be an agent of change for engineering team culture.  At the time TruHearing had limited executive talent acquisition expertise internally.  Furthermore, there was an extensive set of stakeholders and decision makers involved

Approach

JumpSearch had to go deep with TruHearing.  Our team partnered closely with CEO and VP of HR, we developed relationships and interviewed all executives to really understand where the teams have been, where they are today, and where would like to go.  We evaluated the current state of the culture and the aspirational state. We went deep to understand relationships within each internal organization and between those organizations. This helped us to understand the cultural nuances to ensure we found the right executive who would not only meld well with the existing team but also help drive the team and company's evolution in the right direction. 

TruHearing had no tools or systems for recruiting and hiring at the most senior levels.  We implemented a systems for evaluating candidates, score cards, interviewer feedback, and a round tables for discussing candidate feedback.

Results

Within two months of initiating the VP of Technology search, JumpSearch was able to recruit and hire TruHearing's next technology executive and leader.  During that time JumpSearch was able to establish an executive cultural and technical profile, align stakeholders and decision makers, implement best practices in recruiting and interview process, and evaluate and improve employer brand; the end results was a great hire that would lead TruHearing into its next phase of growth and evolution. 

Since then JumpSearch has hired other mission-critical executive leadership including - Director of Sales Operations, FP&A Manager, Software Engineering Manager, DevOps Manager, QA Lead. 

TruHearing continues to grow at an astounding rate and is fulfilling its mission of improving the lives of those with hearing impairment.
